The Paris Opera Ballet

The Paris Opera Ballet is a wonderful behind the scenes documentary about French ballet. The director, Frederick Wiseman, after directing a documentary on the theme of American ballet earlier, has now shifted focus to the French version of this dance form, through his latest venture, La Danse. The documentary follows the crew of the Paris Opera Ballet, as they prepare and perform seven pieces for their 2008 show. The most amazing part of this documentary is that it not only focuses on the talent of the dancers who perform the ballet, but also gives a share of the limelight to the people backstage, who make the show possible. These include the choreographers, the production managers, the set designers and even the people who clean the stage after the performances. Everyone has a share in making a perfect ballet performance, truly perfect.
